Dance Film Workshop
with international award-winning dance film director,
David Hinton December 1 -14, 2008
Toronto, ON

A unique opportunity for choreographers to develop skills and gain experience in the relatively underdeveloped and hugely promising field of dance for the screen, under the mentorship of international award-winning dance film director and film teacher, David Hinton. This hands-on, in-depth workshop will explore the marriage of these two moving mediums and include discussions, screenings and filming choreographic work while exploring the technical, practical and artistic challenges involved in producing a dance film. Each choreographer/director will aim to create a short video and the workshop will culminate in an informal screening of the work.

David Hinton is a director who has made television documentaries about artists of all kinds including painter Francis Bacon, film-maker Bernardo Bertolucci, comedian John Cleese and rock'n'roller Little Richard. He has often worked with dance and dancers, and has made film versions of stage shows by DV8 Physical Theatre, Ulysses Dove, and Russell Maliphant. He has also worked with several choreographers to create original dance works for the screen. He has twice won British Academy awards for his documentaries, and his dance films have won many awards, including a Prix Italia for STRANGE FISH, an Emmy for TWO BY DOVE, and the IMZ Dance Screen Award for both DEAD DREAMS OF MONOCHROME MEN and BIRDS.

REGISTRATION FEE: $900 Canadian
